Dr. Mukamal earned a Bachelor of Engineering Science Degree from SUNY at Stony Brook. Upon graduation, he worked as a mechanical engineer involved with the design and fabrication of power plants for the nuclear attack class submarine for GE.  His engineering experience was applied to the study of dentistry at NYU and after completing a general practice residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC, he ultimately became a member of the teaching staff at the hospital.  The Pankey experience began in 1993 and he has been on the visiting faculty since 1999.  Dr. Mukamal was President of the LD Pankey Alumni Association, has been awarded the distinguished status of Pankey Scholar and is presently serving as a Trustee on the L. D. Pankey Foundation Board.  He has lectured to the Pankey Alumni Association and many groups in the Northeast.  Dr. Mukamal has been Deputy Mayor of his community of Woodsburgh since 1988, where he lives with his wife Sharyn. He has been Vice President of The Woodmere Country Club and serves on the club’s Board of Governors. Dr. Mukamal presently practices Comprehensive Dentistry in Woodmere, NY and Manhattan, NY. Sharyn and Ed enjoy their adult children Ari, his wife Reena, and daughter Amanda.  His hobbies include golf, riding his Harley Davidson, traveling and playing with his grandchildren.
