Biographical Information:
Dr. Ed Sims received his dental education at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry graduating in 1983 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. His undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Oregon where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 1980.   

Dr. Sims started his general dental practice in Anchorage, Alaska to fulfill his obligation of his government backed student loans. He was the dental director of the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center for the community’s indigent and reduced income families and also maintained a private practice in the community from 1983 to 1989. Dr. Sims and his family returned to his wife’s hometown of Sacramento, California after his obligation was met. It was very difficult to leave his new found patients and friends in Alaska; but, the chance to be close to family was important.

The philosophy and teachings of Dr. L.D. Pankey have changed the lives of Dr. Sims, his family, his team and his patients. Spending as much time as needed to listen to his patients and providing all the education possible have become the focus of Dr. Sims’ practice. Helping his patients keep their teeth for a lifetime are his and his team’s goals.

Dr. Sims owes a debt of gratitude to Dr. Steve Ratcliff, the Pankey Institute’s Director, for showing him that after years of practice a dentist’s life and the lives of his family, team and patients could be made better. Dr. Sims also would like to thank his UOP Dental School classmate and Pankey Scholar, Dr. John Orsi, for being one of his mentors. Even though Dr. Pankey is no longer with us his legacy lives through his students. Dr. Sims is now honoring these great dentists by being a mentor himself to other dentists and continues to study at the Pankey Institute.
